People know Philip for first-degree murder, rape, and robbery in the 2013 killing of Collen Ritzer, an Andover resident. He was a freshman at Danvers High School when he committed the deeds to the 24-year-old math teacher.

The incident took place on 23 October 2013. The court tried him as an adult and found him guilty in 2015. The court convicted him of raping Ritzer inside the bathroom and armed robbery for stealing her credit cards and underwear.

Philip is now serving his 40-year to life sentence at the Souza-Baranowski Correctional Center in Lancaster. During the murder trial, the authorities had held him at the DYS facility in Dorchester. At that time, prosecutors alleged he was involved in an attempted murder of a Department of Youth Services worker in June 2014.

However, he didn't receive a verdict for the second crime. Nonetheless, the case remains open as his attorneys pursue a theory that he suffered from a brain or mental health disorder.

In September 2021, during a brief hearing in Suffolk Juvenile Court, attorney John Osler told about an expert evaluating an MRI of Philip's brain. Then, based on the report's admissibility, the hearing was preliminarily scheduled for early March.
