He then worked as an assistant trainer at the Air Force Academy. His dedication to the basketball team cemented his position as an assistant professor and coach at Pomona Pitzer College for eight staunch years. He was also a volunteer assistant coach at the University of Kansas and joined Brown as an assistant at Spurs in 1988-99.
He became a staff member of the NBA Golden StateWarriors in 1992 but later returned to San Antonio in 1994 and 1995 as executive vice president of basketball operations/general manager. In the following years he became the head coach of the San Antonio Spurs.
