Biography of Chris Weidman
Christopher James Weidman is of German and Irish descent and was born on June 17, 1984 in Baldwin, New York. He was raised there alongside his two siblings by highly spiritual parents who raised their children in the Lutheran Church. This spirituality would follow Chris even as a fighter.
Growing up, Chris had his athletic spirit, taking to wrestling. His first choice, however, was to play hockey, but since his family could not afford to provide him with what he needed, he took up other sports like football, basketball, etc. Even when he attended Baldwin High School, he continued as a wrestler. From there he went to Nassau Community College (NCC) but did not complete his education there as he later transferred to Hofstra University, where he graduated. Just as he struggled in his high school, he continued the same through his college years, winning two All-American fights when he was at NCC.
Although he started out as a wrestler, Chris Weidman was to become hugely popular in mixed martial arts (MMA). He decided to get into the sport after seeing Anderson Silva and said he was convinced he could beat this man even though, at that time, Silva was considered the Lionel Messi or Lebron James of MMA. This is what led him to start training in the sport in 2008. In 2009 he was already a mixed martial artist.
The highlight of his career was his fight against Anderson Silva. Coming into the fight, Chris had still been unbeaten in his first 9 professional fights while Silva, considered one of the greatest the sport has ever seen, had lost just 4 out of 33 fights and had Successfully held and defended the UFC Middleweight Championship since 2006. Marivi Caban, whose family is originally from Hawaii, is a graduate of Hofstra University, just like her husband. Since May 2015, she worked as an accountant.
